Leeds United will relocate the Elland Road mural as preparatory works for the stadium’s redevelopment get under way. Planning permission for a new West Stand was granted in January.

The club said in a statement that work on a new security hub begins from Wednesday March 25, and that Leeds artist Nicolas Dixon has been recommissioned to repaint the piece in full so it keeps its prominence. It also thanked the Leeds United Supporters’ Trust for their cooperation and support.

The mural currently sits on the north east corner of the ground. It celebrates the club’s 1972 FA Cup victory and features Don Revie, trainer and coach Les Cocker and a number of iconic players.

Created in 2022 to mark 50 years since that triumph, the abstract artwork was hand painted by Dixon using original portraits designed by fellow artist Paul Trevillion. It was commissioned by the Leeds United Supporters’ Trust.

The wall carrying the mural will house the club’s new security hub, with the existing hub to be demolished. The need for outward kiosk windows is driving the change.
