Leeds United will have to wait until the new year for a decision on their Elland Road expansion after this afternoon’s City Plans Panel meeting was cancelled. Last month’s sitting was also called off while revised transport plans were assessed.

A Leeds City Council spokesperson said the authority is working with the applicant and will bring the scheme back to the panel once outstanding matters are resolved. Meetings are scheduled monthly, with the next on 8th January and another on 5th February 2026. Neither date is guaranteed to include a vote on the proposals.

The club formally submitted plans in July and an initial 13-week timetable pointed to an October decision, but transport issues stalled progress.

Leeds United have sought assurances over timelines given the scale of demolition and rebuild planning, amid concern construction could be delayed beyond a full season.

Travel remains the overriding concern for councillors, who are otherwise broadly supportive. Capacity would rise to 53,000 if approved, bringing inevitable pressure on matchday traffic.

The club aims to cut car use by match-goers from 65% to 51%, using current players and Whites legends to promote change. A full-time travel planning coordinator would liaise with the council and chief business officer Morrie Eisenberg. Options include pre-match closure of Elland Road and extended no-drop-off zones, and officers are reviewing the reworked travel plan after regulators raised concerns over the initial blueprint.
