According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Leeds United are close to finalising a £40m move for Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford, a deal viewed positively inside the club and one that would break their transfer record.

Trafford is on a FIFA mandated post World Cup holiday, due to end after eight August. Leeds set a precedent this summer when £34m signing Tarik Muharemovic paused his break to complete a medical.

A goalkeeper was a priority and, once secured, Leeds expect to add another for back up, plus a centre forward and extra left back cover. They admire Carlos Espi, 21, who scored 13 in 27 for Levante, but have not made a move. They are likely to focus on younger forwards to compete with Dominic Calvert-Lewin for the number nine role.

Despite external links, Leeds are not in for Chelsea's Liam Delap.

Two offers remain on the table. Leeds have told Southampton their proposal for midfielder Shea Charles is their best and final, and there is no sign it has been accepted. He was among several players unused in a closed-door friendly with Paderborn.

The offer to free agent Julian Brandt remains. His father, Jurgen, has met Leeds at Thorp Arch and the family are keeping options open.

In outgoings, Valencia's initial valuation for Largie Ramazani is above what Leeds want, but a return to Mestalla after last season's loan remains possible if terms align.
