Leeds United return to Elland Road on Friday night, looking to secure Premier League survival against already-relegated Burnley.
Daniel Farke’s side aim for back-to-back home victories following a difficult FA Cup semi-final loss at Wembley. They recently earned a hard-fought point against Bournemouth through Sean Longstaff’s late volley. Consequently, Leeds remain unbeaten in their last five Premier League matches. They have won each of their previous five games against already-relegated sides.
Burnley arrive under the interim charge of Mike Jackson following Scott Parker’s departure on Thursday. The Clarets suffered relegation last week after a narrow 1-0 defeat to title-chasing Manchester City. They have won just one of their last 25 Premier League fixtures. However, nine of their last 13 points earned have come away from home.
Daniel Farke confirmed that left-back Gabriel Gudmundsson faces a spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury. Jaka Bijol and Noah Okafor both picked up knocks during the cup battle on Sunday afternoon. That said, the boss remains hopeful both players will be available for Friday’s clash. Joe Rodon and Anton Stach provide crucial depth in the squad for the hosts.
Interim manager Mike Jackson will assess Hannibal Mejbri, Axel Tuanzebe, and Zeki Amdouni before the match. All three players require late fitness checks following various thigh, calf, and knee issues. Meanwhile, Josh Cullen, Connor Roberts, and Jordan Beyer remain unavailable for the trip to Yorkshire. Consequently, Jackson must reshuffle his defensive options for his first game in charge.
Leeds have reached the 40-point mark but still require one final win to guarantee their top-flight safety. They have earned seven points and scored seven goals in their last three league matches. This matches the point total from their previous eight combined fixtures.
The Clarets are currently on a nine-game winless run across all competitions. Their attacking output has nosedived this spring with only two goals in six matches. They average just 9.1 shots per game, the lowest in the Premier League this season.
Leeds United Predicted XI: Darlow, Rodon, Bijol, Struijk, Bogle, Ampadu, Tanaka, Justin, Aaronson, Okafor, Calvert-Lewin
Burnley Predicted XI: Dubravka, Walker, Ekdal, Humphreys, Esteve, Hartman, Tchaouna, Ward-Prowse, Laurent, Anthony, Flemming
