Anton Stach could receive a fresh Germany opportunity after Julian Nagelsmann’s resignation, with Jurgen Klopp confirming talks over the vacancy.

"Yes, I can confirm the talks. Things moved pretty quickly. Julian stepped down. The DFB (German FA) are looking for a successor. And they're talking to me," he told MagentaTV.

"What needs to happen now? Time. I'm under contract with Red Bull. I've said I'm interested in the talks. They will be intensive because this isn't only about Julian Nagelsmann.

"I also have to speak with (Red Bull CEO) Oliver Mintzlaff. He's my employer. We've already touched on a few things. I assume he won't stand in the way."

The 27-year-old Leeds United midfielder impressed across his first season after arriving from TSG Hoffenheim last summer, earning a Germany recall for March friendlies against Switzerland and Ghana. He played 10 minutes from the bench versus Switzerland and was unused against Ghana.

He appeared to be tracking towards World Cup squad selection until an ankle injury late in the season cast doubt. The injury was not serious, yet he was left out of Nagelsmann’s squad for this summer’s tournament in the USA, Mexico and Canada.

Without him, Germany topped Group E and reached the knockout phase, then exited in the last 32, losing 4-3 on penalties to Paraguay after a 1-1 draw after extra-time.
