Leeds United can begin trading today as the summer window opens. Most business is likely after the World Cup, but early movement cannot be ruled out amid four significant calls.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, chairman Paraag Marathe expects fewer than last year’s 10 additions, but higher quality. Attacking difference-makers now top the list after 2025’s defensive groundwork.
Pascal Struijk is into the final year of his contract, creating a delicate decision. A free in 2018, he could generate profit, but left-footed ball-playing centre-backs are scarce, so an extension could rival tying down Ethan Ampadu.
Up front, Leeds still need a right wing or No.10 like Harry Wilson, now a free agent. A near £40m January bid for Jorgen Strand Larsen pointed to a desire for another striker, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin needs competition.
Recruitment will be judged on landing top-end quality, finally getting a big-money deal over the line, the calibre of Igor Paixao or Rodrigo Muniz. Goalkeeper is unsettled, with Illan Meslier gone, Alex Cairns and Karl Darlow in talks, and £16m 2025 signing Lucas Perri underwhelming.
Leeds must decide whether to retain Darlow and Cairns, seek a new No.1, or cut losses on Perri, while Scotland youth Rory Mahady could step up as fourth choice. Sales are planned, with Joel Piroe, Willy Gnonto, Ao Tanaka and returning loanee Joe Gelhardt able to raise funds without weakening the XI under tighter Squad Cost Rules.
