Leeds United defender Joe Rodon was forced off in the first half at Sunderland with a right ankle injury.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, he twice went down after accidental follow-throughs by Brian Brobbey and Simon Adingra while being closed down in possession.
There was no on-pitch treatment after the first incident and he limped for a spell. Having almost recovered, he was then caught on the same ankle by Adingra and required attention from the Leeds medical team.
His discomfort may have contributed to Sunderland’s opener, as he did not push out quickly after a long throw, playing Adingra onside to curl beyond Lucas Perri. He then needed more treatment and was replaced by Ao Tanaka.
After his withdrawal, Leeds switched to a back four, with Jaka Bijol partnering Pascal Struijk and Tanaka moving into midfield alongside Ethan Ampadu. Sebastiaan Bornauw remained on the bench as Daniel Farke kept him in reserve.
Rodon had started 104 consecutive league and play-off matches since September 2023. He is now a doubt for the trip to Liverpool at Anfield on New Year’s Day, which is Thursday next week.
