Bukayo Saka injured in warm-up as Gunners end three-match winless run at Elland Road
Arsenal were without Bukayo Saka as they reasserted their Premier League title credentials with a thumping victory over Leeds. The Gunners lost their attacking talisman to what is being reported as a left hip injury during the warm-up at Elland Road, just days before their Carabao Cup semi-final decider against Chelsea. However, replacement Noni Madueke enjoyed a starring role as Mikel Arteta’s side ran out emphatic 4-0 winners in the driving Yorkshire rain.
With closest rivals Manchester City and Aston Villa both not in action until Sunday, against Tottenham and Brentford respectively, Arsenal seized the chance to rebuild their advantage at the summit to seven points, pile on some pressure of their own and quieten the latest questions about their mettle that followed a three-game winless top-flight run and first home loss of the season to Manchester United. Madueke teed up Martin Zubimendi for a first-half header to break the deadlock, before his delicious corner delivery was accidentally punched in off the post for an own goal by Leeds goalkeeper Karl Darlow.
The visitors soaked up plenty of pressure initially after the interval before Viktor Gyokeres and substitute Gabriel Jesus made it a rout, with Arteta’s men creating plenty of late chances to add to their huge lead.
