Leicester moved 2-0 up on Bristol City at the King Power Stadium as Nelson headed the opener and Fatawu thumped in a volley for a commanding lead.
According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, City started the night in the relegation zone on a run of 10 without a win and 30 without a clean sheet. Rowett had three draws from his first four matches and said the season starts now with 10 to play.
Soon after kick-off, Stolarczyk tipped over a deflected Morsy effort following a mix-up with Okoli, while Mavididi later cut inside but Vitek saved.
On 13 minutes, Fatawu won a free-kick 35 yards out, James delivered, and Nelson rose between two defenders to power past Vitek. On the bench, King and Salder congratulated set-piece coach Hughes, with City scoring from free-kicks in successive games.
Bristol City then applied pressure before Skipp broke forward to relieve it and push Leicester upfield.
On 24 minutes, Fatawu capitalised on Borges’s error and released Mavididi, who shot through his marker’s legs but clipped the outside of the post.
Four minutes later, Skipp shielded the ball, Mavididi crossed from the left, De Cordova-Reid’s bicycle attempt was blocked by Borges and the ball looped to an unmarked Fatawu. He volleyed in from a tight angle with his weaker right, Vitek getting a hand but unable to stop it. As things stand, Leicester sit outside the bottom three and a win would keep them there for at least 24 hours, with West Brom not playing until Wednesday night.
