Sheffield United made it three wins from three after scoring another three goals in a 3-2 victory away at Leicester City.

Barely minutes into the game, former Foxes striker Tom Cannon put the Blades in front after slipping the ball under the goalkeeper in a crowded penalty area. The Blades made it 2-0 just a few minutes later when a corner was recycled and Callum O’Hare unleashed a 20-yard volley which took a slight touch off of Jairo Riedewald and found the bottom corner. United made it 3-0 and the pick of the bunch came from Sydie Peck’s first time volley on the edge of the box which flew into the far corner. Leicester didn’t go away quietly though, second half goals from Stephy Mavididi and Jordan James did enough to scare the Blades late on but United held on.

United started on the front foot and struck immediately. With barely two minutes on the clock, Leicester squandered a simple opportunity to clear their lines, gifting possession to Andre Brooks. Though the hosts briefly regained control, they promptly handed the ball straight to Tom Cannon in the area. The striker reacted sharply, slipping the ball wide to Femi Seriki, whose burst to the by-line and driven delivery caused chaos in the six-yard box. Amid the chaos, Cannon pounced to fire home from close range, punishing the Foxes’ slack defending.

Just three minutes later, the Blades doubled their advantage. Harrison Burrows’ corner was only half-cleared to the edge of the area, where Callum O’Hare seized on the loose ball. His speculative effort from distance took a decisive deflection off Jairo Riedewald, wrong-footing the goalkeeper and nestling into the net to make it 2-0.

United continued to dominate, and it was from one of their seven first-half corners that the lead grew again on 32 minutes. Burrows’ delivery was headed out to the edge of the box, where Sydie Peck met it with a sensational first-time dipping volley. The strike soared into the corner, giving the young midfielder his second goal in as many games and putting the visitors firmly in command.

It could easily have been four before the interval. O’Hare slipped the ball in behind for Tyrese Campbell, who surged into the area and twisted past two defenders, only to drag his final effort narrowly wide.

Second Half

Leicester, flat and frustrated in the opening period, finally stirred after the break. In the 53rd minute, Abdul Fatawu’s cross found Stephy Mavididi arriving at the back post for the Foxes’ first effort on target to offer a glimmer of hope.

Chris Wilder responded with a triple change on 64 minutes, introducing Patrick Bamford, Djibril Soumaré and Gustavo Hamer in place of Campbell, Riedewald and Cannon, aiming to restore control. But Leicester continued to press, with Fatawu forcing a low save from Michael Cooper as the momentum shifted.

The hosts’ pressure eventually told on 83 minutes. James drifted into space 25 yards out and unleashed a swerving drive that flew beyond Cooper, dragging Leicester to within one and setting up a tense finale.

United nearly sealed it in stoppage time when a loose pass from goalkeeper Asmir Begović presented Hamer with a golden opportunity, but the midfielder lifted his shot over with Begović scrambling back.

Sheffield United now have some serious momentum after winning three games in six days, and having scored three goals in each of them, the Blades are now two points above the drop zone in 17th place.
