Leicester City hope to complete a loan move for Chelsea youngster Lexi Potter on WSL transfer deadline day.
As reported by The Guardian, the Foxes hope to sign Potter, who is regarded as one of England’s brightest young talents.
Potter spent the last two seasons out on loan at Crystal Palace, making 43 appearances in total.
Chelsea decided not to loan out Potter for the 2025-26 campaign, but the 19-year-old has struggled to get minutes.
She has played just 29 minutes in the WSL this season. Across all competitions, she has made six appearances, with her only start coming against Liverpool in the League Cup in December.
While a loan move to Leicester, who are in the WSL relegation battle, would help Potter get more minutes, Chelsea are reluctant to let her leave.
The Guardian report that Chelsea are not willing to sanction the move unless they sign a midfielder during the January transfer window.
It was reported on Monday that Chelsea are set to make a second offer for PSG’s Jennifer Echegini.
Chelsea have already had one bid rejected for the Nigerian midfielder, with Le Parisien reporting that Echegini is seen as a vital part of the PSG team.
Should Echegini join, Chelsea will be without the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations winner for at least a month. Echegini is likely to be part of the Nigeria team that will defend their AFCON trophy when the tournament starts in March.
Sonia Bompastor’s future as Chelsea head coach is uncertain following their 5-1 defeat to Manchester City.
After the defeat, Bompastor lamented Chelsea’s lack of depth, stating she would have liked to have been “in a better place in terms of the last transfer windows”.
The potential signing of Potter would be a change in tactics for Leicester head coach Rick Passmoor.
The Foxes have added plenty of experience during the transfer window so far with the additions of Alisha Lehmann, Ashleigh Neville and Rachel Williams.
Leicester have also signed Emma Janssen from FC Rosengard and Sarah Mayling on loan from Aston Villa.
Chelsea, meanwhile, have not signed a single player in the transfer window as yet.
However, Oriane Jean-Francois’s £450,000 move to Aston Villa was a record sale for the Blues.
