Andy King looks likely to take charge of a third match as interim on Tuesday when Leicester City host Southampton, after back-to-back defeats to Charlton and Birmingham that each featured a first-half red card.
According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, over two weeks on from Marti Cifuentes’ exit, no leading candidate has emerged. King said he had not been told if he would lead the side but, with the quick turnaround, he would prepare as if he was doing so and try to lift momentum.
At the weekend there were suggestions Blackburn tried to move for Gary Rowett before any King Power approach, yet his remarks hinted he is not in contention. Rowett also criticised the club’s running, calling their slide from Premier League winners to a Championship fight “very, very poor management”.
Rowett is third favourite with bookmakers behind Russell Martin and Andy King. City have shown interest in Martin before, but fans voiced opposition to him during a game last season, before his disappointing Rangers stint.
King stays at short odds despite stressing he is not seeking the job permanently. Michael Skubala, once a PE teacher at Lutterworth College and now impressing with Lincoln, and ex-Wales boss Chris Coleman, who has worked under King Power at OH Leuven, are also prominent in the betting.
Some fans chanted for Nigel Pearson to return at the weekend, but there is no suggestion he has been contacted.
