Sunday's Premier League match against Manchester United is an important one for Leicester. Not only are the Foxes winless in their last four games, but they have also seen four straight defeats at King Power Stadium across all competitions. This stretches further to six when only considering EPL matches.
It's hard to get a result when conceding at an alarming rate. As seen, however, against Chelsea, City also need to be able to mount an attack to at least question the opposing keeper. Since the 2-2 draw against Brighton, the LCFC faithful have not seen a goal scored while hosting an away side.
Jamie Vardy may have lost a half-step since the peak of his prime, but he has shown the ability to still get behind defenses when given a decent look. Instead, the likes of Facundo Buonanotte and Bilal El Khannouss need to give their captain support against the Red Devils on Sunday.
With four goals, Buonanotte is tied with Jordan Ayew for the second most goals in Prem play. The Argentine shows quality at times. Although some want to see him starting more, Ruud van Nistelrooy hasn't seen enough consistency when he is on the field to justify him in the permanent starting XI.
El Khannous has more starts under his name. The Foxes will hope to see more of him as well, however. In five matches, the Moroccan has only managed three total shots. Considering, though, that he is often an attacking midfielder, City needs to see more chances coming from him.
Regardless of who RvN selects to play directly under Vardy, the midfield needs to step up. Too often, the opposition has found an easy time getting through and putting pressure on the backline and
Mads Hermansen. Most likely, Boubakary Soumaré and Wilfred Ndidi will also need to step up in the center of the park. It's important to keep showing the renewed effort that was on display against the Blues. It now also needs to result in winning back more possession and finding the aforementioned teammates higher up the pitch.
The odds are stacked against van Nistelrooy's men. Any hope of getting a result in the remaining fixtures will need to start in these areas to get the most out of Vardy. The longtime Leicester player is still putting in good shifts up top. He now needs the others to follow his lead.
