Russell Martin has begun reshaping Leicester City’s squad, with striker and defensive recruits on the agenda and key exits looming.
LeicesterMercury.co.uk reports that Leicester are among the clubs eyeing Plymouth Argyle forward Lorent Tolaj after 18 League One goals last season. Preston, Stoke, Swansea and Celtic are also in the frame.
The 24-year-old joined Tom Cleverley’s side from Port Vale and is understood to be valued at about £3m. Cleverley has said interested clubs would need to pay heavily, adding that Tolaj has not asked to leave and loves playing for Argyle.
Leicester need a new centre-forward after Patson Daka and Jordan Ayew left. Defensive reinforcements are also likely, with Rangers centre-back John Souttar among early links.
Souttar started 16 of Martin’s 17 matches at Ibrox and captained five, although a deal is said to be difficult with Rangers reluctant to talk. He is currently at the World Cup with Scotland, having helped them beat Haiti in their group opener.
Abdul Fatawu is one of Leicester’s most valuable assets and a sale this summer looks almost certain. With the club in League One, his price is expected to drop, with interest around £15m from Besiktas, RB Leipzig and Premier League sides.
It is a pivotal window for Leicester in League One, and movement in and out of the King Power is expected as the rebuild gathers pace.
