Leicester City have begun their search for a new head coach after parting company with Marti Cifuentes following Saturday’s defeat to Oxford United.

Gary Rowett has been linked, while Andy King, currently in interim charge, is seen by bookmakers as a short-priced favourite. Russell Martin, Rowett, Gary O'Neill and Lee Carsley also feature in early betting, with no clear frontrunner as the club assesses options.

In a congested Championship table, City are six points off the play-offs with 51 points still to play for, a context likely to shape the profile of their next appointment.

“The players need support from the fans big time. I’m sure that we still have a chance to get back, in this table, to the play-offs at least. The aim is still there,” he told LeicestershireLive.

“Selling the club is not the way to exit. I have to make sure that I complete everything that I did here before I want to leave. I still love it here, I want to make sure the club is successful again.”
