Leila Pereira mocks Flamengo directors as ‘terraflamistas’ in Libra row

The president of Palmeiras, Leila Pereira, once again harshly criticized the stance of the Flamengo management in the dispute involving the distribution of revenues from Libra. In an interview with ‘ge tv‘, the Palmeiras leader stated that there is no war between the clubs but described the conduct of the Flamengo management, led by Luiz Eduardo Baptista, known as Bap, as “unacceptable.”

The statement was made after Flamengo obtained an injunction from the Rio de Janeiro Court of Justice that blocked the transfer of R$ 77 million to the Libra clubs, an amount related to a percentage of the earnings from the audience of the contract signed with Globo. Besides Palmeiras and Flamengo, the group includes Bragantino, São Paulo, Santos, Atlético-MG, Bahia, Grêmio, Vitória, Remo, Paysandu, Volta Redonda, ABC, Guarani, Sampaio Corrêa, and Brusque.

According to Leila, the measure represents an attempt to weaken the other clubs.

– Palmeiras considers Flamengo's strategy ‘predatory and vile’, aiming to ‘financially suffocate’ the other Libra clubs to ‘subjugate them and extract even more individual benefits.’ – she said.

Despite the tension, the Palmeiras president denied that there is an institutional war.

– There is no war between Palmeiras and Flamengo, under any circumstances. There is a disagreement with Flamengo's position that does not recognize a valid contract, which was signed by the previous management, under president Rodolfo Landim. – she commented.

The agreement in question was signed in 2024, with validity until 2029. Flamengo, currently presided over by Bap, questions the validity and the way the revenues are distributed, even after having already received the first installment at the beginning of this year.

Leila, on the other hand, demanded humility from the Flamengo management.

No one is greater than anyone else, more important than anyone else. We need to keep our feet on the ground. One of the greatest virtues of a human being is humility. Flamengo cannot dictate what is best for Brazilian football based on what is best for them. This doesn't exist. Flamengo needs to tone it down a bit.

Without dialogue with the current Rio management, the leader reinforced that the contract needs to be respected:

With certain people, dialogue is impossible. The issue is not with the Flamengo institution, a great club with a large fan base. The problem is with the current management. It is unacceptable for me and for us at Libra, of which Flamengo is a part. They are questioning a contract that was signed by Landim, presented to Flamengo's Deliberative Council, and approved.
