RB Leipzig are closing in on the signing of PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko, leaving Bayern Munich still searching for a solution on the flanks, according to Bavarian Football Works citing Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg.
Bakayoko has reportedly agreed terms with Leipzig after negotiations accelerated in recent days. While Bayer Leverkusen were initially in the running, they have now withdrawn their interest, putting Leipzig firmly in pole position for the 21-year-old Belgium international. The transfer fee under discussion is believed to be around €20 million, with Leipzig now focused on reaching a final agreement with PSV.
Bayern Munich had identified the need for a new winger this summer but have watched the Bakayoko deal shift decisively in Leipzig’s favour. Attention in Munich has instead turned to alternative options, with the club rumoured to be assessing other targets for the left-sided role, as discussed in recent coverage by Bavarian Football Works.
The development is the latest twist in a Bundesliga summer where both RB Leipzig and Bayern have sought to refresh their wide attacking options. For Leipzig, Bakayoko offers proven Eredivisie production and European experience, fitting their strategy of investing in young, high-upside talent for manager Marco Rose.
For Bayern, the missed opportunity to compete for Bakayoko follows ongoing deliberations over available wingers. Most recently, Bayern’s focus has shifted to Arsenal’s Leandro Trossard, a more experienced Premier League option who could provide immediate depth and tactical flexibility. While the club has scouted Trossard, discussions remain internal and no formal offer is currently on the table.
The move for Bakayoko is expected to strengthen an RB Leipzig side that lost several key players in the last transfer window and is eager to keep pace at the top of the Bundesliga. Meanwhile, with the new season approaching, Bayern continue their search for squad reinforcements, aware that their chief rivals are pressing ahead with their recruitment plans.
