Florian Thauvin and Odsonne Édouard headlined Lens’s 5-1 win over Angers in the Ligue 1 matchday 27 opener at Bollaert. L'Équipe notes that Thauvin delivered one goal and two assists, with Édouard scoring twice.
After a blocked effort on eight minutes, Thauvin broke the deadlock on 13 with a right-foot finish from a tight angle, his ninth in Ligue 1 this season, the move sparked by Matthieu Udol winning and taking a quick throw. Moments earlier, Robin Risser had denied Sbaï superbly on 11.
On 25 minutes, Thauvin intercepted Camara’s pass and fed Édouard, who nutmegged Lefort then lifted a deft finish. Risser then kept Sbaï out again with a right-foot save on 27.
Mamadou Sangaré dominated midfield, drawing a fine stop from Pona on 30 before thundering in from 20 metres on 39. To avoid a derby suspension risk if booked, he was replaced at half-time by Andrija Bulatovic.
Édouard passed up a chance on 43, then on 48 Thauvin slid a pass in behind for him to add a second with a composed cross-shot. Angers replied on 62 through Machine after a poor Risser pass towards Thomasson. On 69 minutes Thauvin and Édouard made way to ovations for Abdallah Sima and Allan Saint-Maximin, before Udol acrobatically volleyed Sima’s cross on 72 to crown his 30th birthday.
