Leon Bailey (28) is set to return to Aston Villa after his loan spell at Roma was brought to an early conclusion, bringing a premature end to his brief spell in Italian football, according to reports from Sky Sports.
The Jamaica international joined the Serie A side in the summer in a deal that included an option to buy, with Roma hopeful Bailey’s pace and directness would add cutting edge to their attack. However, after just 11 appearances across all competitions, the move has failed to develop as anticipated.
Bailey’s time in Rome was marked by flashes of promise but limited continuity, as he struggled to establish himself as a regular starter. With Roma opting not to pursue the purchase clause at this stage, the winger will now return to Villa Park, where his future is once again the subject of scrutiny.
The 28-year-old is expected to travel back to England today, giving Aston Villa an immediate decision to make. Unai Emery must now assess whether Bailey can still play a role in his plans for the second half of the season, particularly with Villa juggling domestic and European commitments, or whether another move will be explored before the transfer window closes.
For Bailey, the return represents both a setback and an opportunity. Having previously shown his quality in the Premier League, he will be eager to reassert his value and prove that his Villa career still has unfinished business.
