Leonardo Jardim to use main Flamengo stars against Benfica and River Plate | OneFootball

According to Glorioso 1904, Flamengo head coach Leonardo Jardim said he will use most of his first-choice players against Benfica and River Plate during the Algarve training camp.

Flamengo have been in Portugal since last Sunday and will play three warm-ups at Estádio Algarve. They face River Plate first, then Lausanne, before concluding against Benfica on 11 July.

Jardim added that the Lausanne game will be used to hand youngsters 45 minutes or more so they gain experience and staff can assess them properly.

He said several clubs have told him they will watch these matches, calling them a platform for Flamengo prospects. He also noted that Portugal’s three big clubs tend to buy well.

The coach welcomed a return to Portugal in pre-season, saying it feels like home after years living and working abroad.
