Levante have brought back Mathew Ryan, the Australian goalkeeper signing through 30 June 2027 after an impressive 25/26 in Orriols.

The club said in a statement that Ryan will wear the Levante shirt again this season. Born in Plumpton, Sydney, on 8 April 1992, he joined last summer and featured in 36 league games.

Ryan came through Blacktown City and Central Coast Mariners, making his top-flight debut with the latter in 2010/2011. He moved to Club Brugge in 2013 and arrived in Spain with Valencia in 2015.

In January 2017 he joined KRC Genk on loan, then signed for Brighton & Hove Albion, moving on loan to Arsenal in January 2021. He returned to LaLiga with Real Sociedad in 2021/2022, later playing for FC Copenhagen and AZ Alkmaar. In 2024/2025 he was on the books of AS Roma and RC Lens.

Across 25/26 he ranked among LaLiga’s busiest shot-stoppers and was central to Levante’s survival. He then played at his fourth World Cup with Australia, although his tournament included a setback, he came on in the 119th minute in the last 32 against Egypt for the shootout and did not save a penalty.

After a short break, Ryan has rejoined the squad aiming to be decisive again in Levante’s objectives.
