According to journalist Romain Molina, AS Monaco have made a decision regarding on-loan Barcelona forward Ansu Fati that they no longer plan to keep him beyond the current season.

Ansu’s loan move to Monaco last summer initially appeared to be the perfect reset.

His arrival generated huge excitement, both inside the club and among supporters, who believed the former Barcelona prodigy had finally found the ideal environment to revive his career.

After a well-managed adaptation period, the attacker responded positively, becoming one of Monaco’s most effective scorers and showing flashes of the sharpness that once made him one of Europe’s most exciting young forwards.

For a time, this felt like the best version of Ansu in years. Physically refreshed after a long and carefully planned pre-season, he looked lighter, quicker, and more decisive in the final third.

Ligue 1’s rhythm appeared to suit him, and Monaco benefited from his movement and finishing during the early part of the campaign.

A lot has changed since

However, the situation has gradually shifted. Minor physical problems began to disrupt his continuity, and the turning point came with a change on the bench.

The emergence of Sebastien Pocognoli as Monaco’s head coach altered the internal dynamics of the squad.

Under the new setup, Ansu’s role diminished significantly, and his minutes started to dry up.

As such, the on-loan Barcelona forward has not started a match since November 22 and has not featured at all since November 29, clocking just 598 minutes across Ligue 1 and the Champions League.

Despite feeling capable and ready to contribute, he has fallen down the pecking order, and Monaco’s technical staff no longer see him as part of their medium-term plans.

As a result, Monaco have decided they will not activate the €12 million purchase option included in the loan agreement with Barcelona

That decision effectively closes the door on Ansu continuing in the Principality next season.

Looking ahead, the winger remains under contract at Barcelona until 2028. If he returns to the club next summer, he will technically still have a squad number but his long-term future remains unresolved.
