Monaco’s move for Paul Pogba has been structured to limit fixed costs, with the midfielder still working back to fitness.
According to L'Équipe, the 33-year-old signed a two-year deal in late June on a gross monthly wage under 200,000 euros, heavily weighted with appearance and performance bonuses. The fine print is closely guarded and relatively modest for a player of his stature.
After three and a half months out with a calf problem, Pogba reappeared during the international break in a closed-doors friendly against Brentford at La Turbie. Starting among the non-internationals, he played about 25 minutes, scored from the edge of the area, and Monaco lost 1-2. The cameo had been planned as a short test rather than enforced by injury.
His fixed pay sits well below Eric Dier, who arrived from Bayern on a free and earns 330,000 euros net, and the 250,000 euros net Monaco cover as half of Ansu Fati’s salary.
In competitive matches he has only 30 minutes for Monaco this season. That does not mean an immediate return to official action is forthcoming.
A source close to the club says money was not his priority, and that he turned down richer offers to prove himself in a competitive setting. With minimal minutes across eight months, bonuses are not yet in play, though his daily application is praised in the Principality. Whether we will see the Pogba we once knew remains uncertain.
