Lille climbed above OL into third with a 1-0 win at Monaco, as Lyon lost 2-1 at Toulouse. Next Sunday’s Rennes v OM could prove decisive in the European race.
According to L'Équipe, the Champions League chase had crawled until late drama. Monaco and Lille initially cancelled each other out, Lyon trailed in the 10th minute to Dayann Methalie in Toulouse, and Paris FC struck on 53 through Willem Geubbels against Rennes.
Corentin Tolisso levelled for Lyon with a header on 71 minutes. Almost immediately Lille led via a Denis Zakaria own goal on 72, Esteban Lepaul then headed Rennes level on 74, before substitute Breel Embolo made it 2-1 on 75.
Warren Kamanzi restored Toulouse’s lead on 78 to sink OL 2-1. A late Mika Biereth miss on 90 helped the Dogues hold firm and a direct Champions League spot.
OM finally won again in Ligue 1, their first since 10 April, but needed VAR to give a handball by Lucas Gourna-Douath from a Mason Greenwood free-kick. Greenwood converted off the post on 54.
Later, Sofiane Boufal won a penalty after contact with Facundo Medina but hit the bar, Issa Soumaré headed the rebound and Geronimo Rulli saved on 70 to preserve OM’s lead. Marseille will be assured of the Europa League if they beat Rennes at the Vélodrome next Sunday. Monaco drop to seventh, a place that would only mean the Conference League if Lens win the Coupe de France.
