Lingard on choosing Corinthians and his fitness ahead of debut

The English midfielder Jesse Lingard was officially presented as a reinforcement for Corinthians and gave his first press conference wearing the black and white jersey directly from the Neo Química Arena before the match against Coritiba.

First, the midfielder spoke about the conversations he had with Memphis Depay regarding his arrival at Corinthians: “I talked to Memphis a bit. We talked about the team, how the team plays. I know Corinthians is a big team, I was sure I wanted to come here. The fans are passionate. I want to be on the field with these guys.”

Lingard also spoke about his physical condition and playing in the Libertadores, compared to the Champions League and Europa League: “I have no problem with more physical football, I like that. As a player, I want to play in the best teams, in the best competitions. I'm here to win. I have no problem with physical football. I see more intensity here in Brazil, the training sessions are showing that. I like this challenge.”

Finally, the athlete commented on the offers he had and the choice he made to come to Corinthians: “I was out of contract, had several offers. There are offers that come and those that aren't real. It's about making the right deal and knowing where I was going, I couldn't make a mistake. It's about having the discipline to train, this period was stressful. When Corinthians came with the offer, there was no other choice. I had offers from abroad and other places, but I wanted to try something new. It's an honor to be here.”
