Lionel Messi has signed a new contract at Inter Miami.
The former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain forward has agreed to fresh terms that will see him stay in Major League Soccer until the end of the 2028 season.
The Argentine, who lifted the 2022 World Cup with his country, joined Miami from PSG back in July 2023, taking up one of the Florida club’s Designated Player slots in their roster.
He signed an initial two and a half year deal with the club, where he was named the MLS MVP in 2024, and this year, he won the golden boot after 29 goals in 28 games.
He is up to retain his MVP crown in 2025, and if he is to do so, he will become the first player in history to achieve the feat.
Upon Messi’s arrival, he led Miami to a first-ever Leagues Cup in 2023, before they won the Supporters’ Shield in 2024, setting a league points record en route.
Messi played in the recent Club World Cup for Miami, but they were knocked out by PSG in the last 16.
Messi, now 38, is aiming to help Miami to their first ever MLS Cup victory, where they take on Nashville SC on Friday in the first round of the play-off series.
