Barcelona legend Lionel Messi secured for himself a fresh piece of football history in the early hours of Wednesday.
This came by way of his performance in Argentina’s latest outing.

When all was said and done in a predictably one-sided affair, it was the world champions who emerged triumphant, by six goals to nil.
The aforementioned Messi for his part featured from the off in the matchup, and enjoyed a typically productive outing.
Though he did not manage to find the net, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner laid on a pair of assists for his teammates.
And as alluded to above, in the process, Messi continued to etch his name indellibly into the history books of world football.
As per a report from journalist Fabrizio Romano:
‘Leo Messi reaches 60 assists with Argentina, most in international football history beating Neymar’s previous record at 59. Messi’s also 2 assists away from 400 career assists.’
