To mark the legacy of Scotland’s most iconic football team - Celtic's 1967 European Cup winners - the 2025 edition of the Lisbon Lions Trophy finals took place on Thursday (5 June) at the club's Lennoxtown Training Complex. Run in partnership with the Glasgow Schools’ Football Association (GSFA), the tournament welcomed over 250 pupils from 16 schools across Glasgow and the West – inspired by the Lisbon Lions who conquered European football 58 years ago. After qualifying from the group phase of the competition at the Toryglen Regional Football Centre, four schools emerged as finalists and took to the pitch on Thursday to battle it out for the trophy - Holyrood Secondary, St Ninians High (Kirkintilloch), Our Lady's High (Motherwell) and St Peter the Apostle. Holyrood Secondary were the eventual and well-deserved victors on the day, also becoming the first school to lift the trophy for a second time. Paul Downie, Lisbon Lions Convenor for the Glasgow Schools Football Association, said: “Football is an integral part of everyday life and a source of inspiration in Glasgow for many children and young people.

"The legacy of the Lisbon Lions stands as a powerful example of what young people from Glasgow can achieve. We appreciate the continued support of Celtic Football Club to inspire the ambition we aim to bring out in our young people, both in sport and in life.” Celtic Football Club is proud to co-host this event alongside the GSFA, as we continue to help develop Scotland’s next generation of footballers and celebrate the enduring legacy of the Lisbon Lions.
