To mark the legacy of Scotland’s most iconic football team - Celtic's 1967 European Cup winners - the 2026 edition of the Lisbon Lions Trophy finals took place on Thursday, June 4 at the club's Lennoxtown Training Complex.
After qualifying from the group phase of the competition at the Toryglen Regional Football Centre, four schools emerged and took to the pitch on Thursday to battle it out in the semi-finals and final for the trophy - Holyrood Secondary, Bannerman High, Bearsden Academy and Lenzie Academy.
After two closely contested semi-finals, Bearsden beat last year's winners, Holyrood on penalties in the final following a 0-0 draw and received their trophy and medals from former Celt, Tosh McKinlay
Paul Downie, Lisbon Lions Trophy Convenor for the GSFA said "Over the course of the nine years since we set up the Lisbon Lions Trophy to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of that historic night in Lisbon, over 2,000 young people have come together to celebrate the Lions and compete for the trophy which has seen seven different schools lift the cup.
“This season both domestic and international football have reminded us all of the excitement and drama that football can provide, and having Tosh McKinlay who played against both Brazil and Morocco at France '98 present the Lisbon Lions Trophy this year, just days ahead of Scotland's return to the World Cup has given further inspiration to the those competing in the finals.
“Our thanks go out to all at Celtic Football Club, Glasgow Life and the GSFA who work in partnership to provide this opportunity for young people across Glasgow and the West to help inspire them to be the best version of themselves both on and off the park.”
Celtic Football Club is proud to co-host this event alongside the GSFA, as we continue to help develop Scotland’s next generation of footballers and celebrate the enduring legacy of the Lisbon Lions.
