Liverpool massively under performed last season.

The Anfield outfit let Arne Slot and their fanbase down by only managing to finish fifth in the Premier League.

Indeed, this still allowed them to qualify for the Champions League but, that should have been the bare minimum that they achieved after winning the Premier League title.

So, with this in mind, it's hardly surprising to see the Reds get linked with several new players almost every day.

And, even though they probably don't have as much money to spend this summer as they did last term, it still feels like they could make some valuable additions to their team.

Several areas among Iraola's ranks need new players adding to them, that is, especially if they want to get to the same level as their title rivals such as Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal.

Liverpool are considering activating Jarell Quansah's buy-back clause from Bayer Leverkusen

Last summer, Slot got rid of many of Liverpool's first-team squad.

Indeed, the massive clear-out was definitely needed due to the amount of money they spent on new players but, selling Jarell Quansah always felt like a big mistake.

When called upon, the defender was arguably one of the Reds' best players and, the fact that he could be used as a centre-back or a right-back was massively beneficial.

During the 2025-26 campaign, the Reds' right-back was one of their main issues with Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong spending most of their season in the treatment room.

So, that's why it's not all that much of a surprise to see Liverpool being linked with a return for Quansah.

That is, if an update from Hooligan Football is to be believed.

"Hooligan Soccer have been told that Liverpool are seriously considering activating his buy-back clause and have already held internal discussions about the financial and tactical justification for bringing the defender back to Anfield," they wrote.

"No matter what bids the other interested clubs present, once Liverpool trigger this clause, the transfer can be wrapped up immediately without the need for prolonged negotiations. This leverage renders Liverpool the undisputed frontrunners in the race."

As Quansah showed during the 2026 World Cup, he's an exceptional player.

He's tall, strong and fast, three of the main things you need to be a good defender in this day and age.

The 23-year-old is also defensively solid with Thomas Tuchel often choosing him to start or feature for England when available.

Most people expect Quansah to return to Anfield at some point but, re-signing him after a year feels like a waste of money.

Indeed, he would instantly solve two of the Reds' problems (homegrown and defensive cover) but, for the price Liverpool would have to pay for him, it feels like they should wait.

Other options have obviously emerged on Liverpool's radar such as Djed Spence and, at this moment in time, a move for the Tottenham defender feels much more viable.

There's obviously no knowing what plans Richard Hughes has for the Anfield outfit this summer but, signing Quansah feels like a bit of a risk at the moment.
