Liverpool’s midfield search may be about to take another intriguing turn. According to Tuttosport, Juventus could be forced into difficult decisions before the end of June, with the Italian club needing to generate a €20m capital gain.
That financial pressure has placed several players under the microscope, including Andrea Cambiaso, Fabio Miretti, Federico Gatti and, most interestingly from a Liverpool perspective, Khephren Thuram.
Tuttosport reports that Thuram was scouted during the season by Liverpool, Newcastle, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa. That does not mean a deal is imminent, but it does suggest that Premier League clubs have been circling for some time.
The most significant detail is not simply Juventus’ valuation, but Thuram’s own stance. Galatasaray have reportedly made an approach, yet the French midfielder is not interested in joining the Turkish champions.
For Liverpool, Thuram is a fascinating profile. He is tall, mobile, technically secure and still only 25. He carries the ball with purpose, has the physical frame to cope with English football and offers that blend of athleticism and control that top sides increasingly demand in central areas.
Juventus reportedly value him at €40m, a fee that would not feel excessive in the Premier League market if Liverpool believe he can become a long-term piece of their midfield structure.
The question is whether he fits what Liverpool need most. If the priority is a pure defensive midfielder, Thuram may not be the perfect answer. If the aim is to add power, progression and flexibility, his appeal becomes clearer.
Liverpool will not be alone if Juventus invite offers. Newcastle and Aston Villa have both shown ambition in the market, while Nottingham Forest’s reported scouting underlines how widely Thuram is being assessed.
This may become less about who likes the player and more about who is prepared to move first. Juventus need money. Thuram prefers to stay, but would consider England. Liverpool need midfield quality.
Sometimes transfer windows are shaped not by grand plans, but by opportunity. This could be one of them.
From a Liverpool fan’s perspective, this is exactly the kind of report that feels worth monitoring, but not overhyping. Khephren Thuram has long looked like a player who could suit the Premier League, and at €40m, he sits in that tempting zone where a deal feels expensive enough to be serious, but not absurd by modern standards.
The appeal is obvious. Liverpool have lacked legs, power and ball-carrying authority in midfield at different points, and Thuram brings those qualities naturally. He is not a destroyer in the old-fashioned sense, but he does give a side presence. He can drive through pressure, cover ground and help turn midfield possession into territory.
The concern is role clarity. Liverpool cannot simply collect good midfielders and hope the balance solves itself. If they want a No 6, they should sign a No 6. If Thuram is being viewed as an athletic No 8 who can support a more structured midfield base, then the logic becomes stronger.
What makes this one interesting is Juventus’ situation. If they genuinely need a €20m capital gain by the end of the month, Liverpool may sense a chance to move smartly. Thuram may not be the headline name supporters dream about, but he looks like the sort of signing that could age well if placed in the right system.
