Alexander Isak admitted he feels disconnected from the club whilst on international duty

This disappointing season came after spending over £300 million last summer on three superstar attackers - Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike and the aforementioned Isak for a record £125m.

All three players in their own way, struggled in their debut season - Isak suffered a broken leg in December that saw him out for a large period of the season, Wirtz had a period of latency adjusting to the team before finding his feet.

There is no doubt these three players will play key roles in whatever plans Liverpool’s expected new manager Andoni Iraola will have, but Isak admitted to feeling disconnected from the club and sadness at Slot’s departure as the man that brought him to the club.

“I've kind of disconnected from Liverpool now that I'm here [with Sweden],” Isak explained. “It's always sad when a coach has to leave.

“[The manager is] usually the first position to change when things go badly.

“As I said, I don't know much about what has happened or will happen. I wish him all the best.”
