Liverpool seem to be in the market for a new player every day now.

The Reds are in desperate need of some upgrades with most of their squad failing to meet expectations last term.

As a result of their poor performances, Arne Slot was sacked which led to Andoni Iraola being appointed as their new head coach.

This means that new transfer targets are likely to continue emerging until the window slams shut.

And, while this may get tiring for fans, it at least means that Liverpool are exploring all of their possible options and now, they could be about to strike a rather impressive deal.

Liverpool are 'vying' for the transfer of Gilberto Mora

Gilberto Mora is one of the most talked about players at the 2026 World Cup.

The 17-year-old Mexican started his first World Cup game for his country on 1 July and, even though he didn't score or assist any of his teammates, his skillset was a sight to behold.

At the moment, the Mexico international plays for Tijuana and featured in 20 games across all competitions this season.

Although his natural position is attacking-midfield, he's played just about everywhere in attack and midfield this term.

And now, thanks to his recent performances and the potential he has, a fresh report from De Telegraaf has shared that five Premier League clubs, including Liverpool are now 'vying' for his transfer.

"Mora was involved in several promising attacks and provided the assist for Raul Giménez's opening goal.

"Although he was substituted after more than seventy minutes - to a standing ovation in the Azteca Stadium - he received much praise afterwards from the Mexican media and national coach Javier Aguirre, who commended his maturity and game intelligence.

"Meanwhile, quite a few big clubs are reportedly vying for his services: Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool. However, Mora is said to want to wait until he turns 18 (October 2027) before making a move to Europe."

Liverpool would have to figure out the best way to use Gilberto Mora in their squad

From his recent World Cup outings, it's clear that Mora is a special talent.

Before going to the World Cup, he signed a bumper new deal with Tijuana and was even given the number 10 which proves how highly regarded he is.

As per Fotmob, during the 154 minutes of football he's played for Mexico in the World Cup, he's maintained a pass accuracy of 90.5 per cent and has created four chances for his teammates.

Mora has also taken four shots and, while none have gone in, the fact that he's getting himself into those positions at just 17 years old is impressive.

While playing for Tijuana, Mora has contributed to seven goals and, while the Liga MX isn't the best place to develop talent, it's clear that his skills are shining through no matter what.

Most Liverpool fans would be buzzing about signing Mora after his recent performances but, since the Reds already have Florian Wirtz and Dominik Szoboszlai who can play well as number 10s, it's unclear where he'd exactly fit into their plans.

So, with this in mind, the Reds can't just enter the race without a plan just to one-up their rivals as, Mora's development could just halt and all the money they spend on him could end up being wasted.

There's no knowing what the future has in store but, with all the changes that are afoot at Anfield, nothing is impossible and fans could end up seeing the Mexican wonderkid representing them in January 2028.
