Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen are reportedly “in contact” to finalise a deal for Jarell Quansah in the summer transfer window.

The centre-back has been linked with a move to the German outfit after struggling for gametime in the Reds’ Premier League title-winning campaign

Quansah was handed a start on the opening weekend of the season against Ipswich Town, but was taken off at half-time following a poor performance and went on to start just three more times in the top flight.

The “final details” of the defender’s move to Leverkusen are “being sorted”, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Die Werkself are set to hand over a transfer fee of £30m plus add-ons after reaching an “agreement” with Quansah ahead of the deal. Earlier this summer he was linked with Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest and Inter Milan.

Liverpool are reportedly lining up Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi as his replacement. The Telegraph claim that they will make a “significant offer” for the England international.

Should Liverpool sell Quansah to Leverkusen, it will be the third time the two clubs have done business this summer after Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz joine the Merseyside outfit.

Quansah recently hinted at a possible Anfield exit while on international duty with the Young Lions at the U21 European Championship, saying he was ready to take the “next step” in his career.

“I think I can take massive learnings from the three seasons I’ve had in professional football,” the 22-year-old said.

“From Bristol Rovers until now, to put perspective and look back I’m in a very good position to take the next step. It comes with working hard and staying focused on what I can control.

“As for the future, it’ll put me in the best stead if I just keep my head down and keep working.”
