In a recent report, journalist Graeme Bailey claimed that Liverpool are locked in a three-way battle for Burnley defender Maxime Esteve. It has been stated that the Reds would have to compete with Chelsea and Crystal Palace in the race to land the French centre-back in this summer transfer window

Esteve’s Impressive Form In English Football

The 24-year-old produced a run of solid displays at the heart of Burnley’s defence in the previous campaign. Esteve played in 36 matches for the Lancashire outfit last season but failed to find the back of the net or create a goal for them across all fronts.

The French sensation is currently among the most talented centre-backs in the Premier League following another impressive campaign at Burnley. Thus, Liverpool would do well to get a deal done for him in this summer transfer window.

His current contract at Turf Moor will expire in the summer of 2030, which could make it difficult for the Reds to sign him on a cut-price deal this off-season.

Will Esteve Be A Good Choice For Liverpool Boss Andoni Iraola?

Esteve is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn possession back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind clearing his lines when the opposition are on the front foot and is a tidy passer from the back.

Standing at 1.93m, the French talent is a strong presence in the air and can win his fair share of aerial duels on the defensive end of the pitch. He is already quite familiar with the Premier League and won’t take much time to adjust to life at the Merseyside club.

We can expect Esteve to add more bite and steel to Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola’s backline. He is good enough to serve as a solid replacement for Ibrahima Konate at the Premier League club.

At 24, Esteve has got his best years ahead of him, which makes him a worthy target for the Reds to consider in this transfer period. He will also help Liverpool challenge across all competitions in the coming seasons. All in all, Esteve would be a decent choice for the Merseyside giants to pursue this summer.
