Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate is not expected to be involved against Bournemouth on Saturday following the death of his father.

Konate missed the win over Marseille on Wednesday while he returned home to be with his family, and later said his father had passed away.

“I spoke to him a few times,” Slot said when asked about Konate.

“These are private matters and they should stay between us but it’s very obvious that when something like that happens, a player needs time to be there for his family and also time for himself.”

Meanwhile, Federico Chiesa also missed the game against Marseille through injury having pulled out of the squad late on, and Slot says he is again a doubt for this weekend.

“Federico wasn’t able to be on the bench Wednesday so then there was a recovery session yesterday,” he explained.

“We have to wait and see today. It’s difficult for me to say if he’s available for Bournemouth.

“We don’t expect him to be out for long so it would be 50/50 maybe if he’s available for tomorrow.

“For the rest, at this moment in time, no one picked up a knock after the game but sometimes when you start training again (injuries happen) but I expect all the same players to be available for tomorrow.”

Slot also says he does not expect to add to his squad before the January transfer window shuts.

“That’s what I expect, yeah,” Slot responded when asked if he expects the squad to stay the same this month.

“But, as I always say then, if there’s an opportunity in the market or we think we can strengthen the squad then this club will always try to do so.

“But at this moment of time I expect it to stay mainly the same.”
