Liverpool could be closer to reaching an agreement for Alexander Isak after Newcastle's latest move.

The Swede is the club's first choice target this summer. Liverpool want to bring Isak to Anfield, he is absolutely the dream choice for Richard Hughes.

Given how much Liverpool need to sign a forward, bringing in Isak makes sense. He is the best of the best, and he's proven that in the Premier League over the course of the last two seasons.

Liverpool have a good chance of landing him as well. But Newcastle will not make it easy. They know they have a special talent in Isak and they won't want to part ways with him.

They will only do so if they have no choice or if they receive the kind of offer they simply can't refuse.

And that's an offer Liverpool could make, especially after Newcastle's latest reported target.

According to TBR Football, Newcastle United have also entered the race for Harvey Elliott. The report claims that Liverpool want closer to £50m for Elliott.

That's a steep sum to pay for a side who are struggling with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). But there is a way Liverpool and Newcastle could come to an agreement involving Elliott and Isak that would benefit both sides.

Selling Isak while getting a player in return from Liverpool, and not just any player but a player in Elliott who has been England's best player at the U21 Euros, might be a deal Newcastle would be more willing to agree to.

It's a deal that is a lot more palatable to digest for their fans as well.

Let's say with Newcastle valuing Isak at £150m, Liverpool offer them £100m plus Harvey Elliott. If Newcastle's interest is genuine that's a deal that could easily be done.

And it's a deal that massively benefits Newcastle. For £100m they can continue building their squad, replace Isak and as well as that they can a really talented player in Elliott, who is already on their list of targets this summer.

It's still a longshot but given Newcastle's interest in Elliott Liverpool are certainly a little bit closer to being able to strike an agreement with the Magpies.

Whether a deal can and will be done remains to be seen. But it's interesting that neither party is completely ruling out the possibility of Isak being on the move just yet.

Until, that is completely denied, there is a chance. And oh my what a signing that could be. The prospect of Isak lining up alongside Florian Wirtz and Mohamed Salah, while Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong supply him with crosses from the wings is mouthwatering.
