Liverpool will reportedly face serious competition to sign Marc Guehi on a free transfer next summer as some of Europe’s biggest clubs eye up a move.
The centre-back appeared poised to join the Reds from Crystal Palace for around £35 million on Deadline Day, but his move was blocked after the club failed to land a replacement.
Guehi is said to be ‘extremely unhappy’ about the situation and will refuse to sign a new deal with the Eagles, meaning he will be a free agent when his current contract expires at the end of the season.
Liverpool remain interested in signing the 25-year-old, but there is no guarantee he will move to Anfield in the summer transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Several clubs in England and Europe are “considering a move” next year for Guehi as signing him on a free is seen as a “big opportunity”.
The Mirror‘s John Cross claims that Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Juventus and Real Madrid are among the teams eyeing up a move for the defender.
Foreign clubs Guehi is able to speak and agree a pre-contract with foreign clubs from 1 January 2026, which leaves Liverpool at a distinct disadvantage in the battle to sign the Palace captain.
England head coach Thomas Tuchel revealed on Friday that he held talks with Guehi about the failed transfer when arrived at the Three Lions training camp this week.
“Of course we had a chat with him,” Tuchel said in his pre-match press conference on Friday.
“He looks absolutely fine and impressive on the field, he has a good couple of weeks behind him on the performance side. He is the main driver of Crystal Palace’s success, he is the captain and the leader and he played very impressively at the end of last season.
“He has continued like that in camp and he handles it [his transfer situation] with respect and with a brilliant attitude.”
