Liverpool fans must be over the moon with the way their team won against Tottenham Hotspur, but there is one player who will be worried about his place in Arne Slot’s starting line-up.

Mohamed Salah scored two goals for Liverpool. Luis Diaz also found the back of the net twice for the Merseyside club.

Diaz led the line for Liverpool in a 4-2-3-1 formation. The Colombia international was taken off in the 87th minute. Darwin Nunez came on in his place.

Nunez has struggled to get into the Liverpool starting line-up on a regular basis this season, and Diaz’s goals will further damage the £140,000-a-week (Spotrac) forward’s chances of playing week in and week out for the Reds.

The 25-year-old striker has scored four goals and given three assists in 22 matches in all competitions for Liverpool this season.

During the 2023-24 campaign, Nunez found the back of the net 18 times in 54 appearances for the Reds. The striker gave 13 assists in those games.

In Liverpool’s front-line, Salah is a regular. The Egyptian forward is a world-class player and is one of the first names on Slot’s teamsheet.

Diaz has made 11 starts and five substitute appearances in the Premier League, and his seven goals in those games suggest that he is more of a goal threat than Nunez is.

Nunez has been deployed as a centre-forward, and his goal return is disappointing. We are now heading into the second half of the match where every goal and point will matter.

It is hard to see Slot use Nunez in the starting line-up too many times in the coming weeks and months. The striker has started six times in the Premier League, four times in the UEFA Champions League and twice in the Carabao Cup.
