The club's academy is hiding an Alexander-Arnold clone, who modelled his game on the Liverpool right-back and plays very similar to him.

I first wrote about Calvin Ramsay way back in 2021, before he was even being linked with a move to the club. At Aberdeen, his numbers were eerily similar to Alexander-Arnold, which led me to write a piece about why the Reds should be looking at him here.

Fast forward around nine months or so and he was signing for Liverpool and there were pieces about him being written on how he modelled his game around Alexander-Arnold.

Then we got to see him in the flesh against Derby County, and the performance was sublime - very similar to Alexander-Arnold.

Ramsay was tremendous that night, playing the full-back role in the kind of style Alexander-Arnold would have been proud of.

That night against Derby, Ramsay recorded a whopping 107 passes from 114 attempted, with 19 passes into the final third, and six into the penalty area, while completing two out of his three dribbles and also winning two out of his three defensive duels.

Unfortunately, injuries have wreaked havoc on his career which means he's back with the U21s playing in the EFL Trophy and the Premier League 2 at 22-years-old.

It's telling though that Liverpool haven't sold nor loaned him. They must still believe in his talent and believe he can fulfil his potential. No career path is linear, and keeping him at the club in order to continue his rehabilitation will have been a calculated choice in order to get him back on track.

It's a move that has paid dividends. Ramsay is back playing quality football and he showcased it in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday night with a top performance.

The right-back created the most chances (2) on the pitch and won the most duels (9). He also made nine passes into the final third, 17 forward passes and six passes into the opposition's penalty area.

Those numbers are Trent esque and it shows that he's still got it in his locker. At the moment he's not registered to play for Liverpool in the Premier League.

However, when the registration window opens in January and Ramsay continues these kind of performances, perhaps Slot might have to rethink his choices.
