Liverpool Injury Update: Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak and Key Returns Ahead of Man City Clash

Liverpool return from the international break with cautious optimism as Arne Slot prepares his squad for a defining stretch of the season. A trip to Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter final is followed swiftly by a Champions League showdown with Paris Saint Germain, and the fitness of key players like Mohamed Salah and Alexander Isak could shape everything.

Mohamed Salah fitness boost for Liverpool

There is growing belief around Liverpool that Mohamed Salah will be available sooner rather than later. The forward missed Egypt’s recent fixtures and sat out the defeat to Brighton, a rare absence given his durability since arriving at Anfield in 2017.

Slot remained hopeful when addressing Salah’s condition: “The good thing for Liverpool is that we go to an international break, the bad thing for Egypt is that he can’t go there.

“We are hoping that with what Mo has shown in the past, he can recover faster than other players might in similar situations.

“He takes such good care of his body and history has shown he can be back earlier than others. But it’s only two weeks until we go again, so let’s hope in that period of time he can be back.”

That tone reflects both caution and expectation. Salah’s track record suggests he rarely lingers on the treatment table, and Liverpool will be hoping he can influence the tie at the Etihad.

Alexander Isak nearing Liverpool return

If Salah represents reliability, Alexander Isak represents intrigue. The striker has been out since December after suffering a broken leg, but he is now edging closer to a comeback.

Slot has already hinted at a phased return: “He will be available [against PSG], the question is what you mean by ‘ready’.

“If you want to have the player who played exactly a year ago against us in the Carabao Cup final, and was too good for us on that day, then I would tell you I have my doubts about that after months out. But I expect I can use him for minutes.”

Those words matter. Liverpool are not expecting a fully sharp Isak immediately, but even limited involvement could provide a tactical option as the schedule intensifies.

Defensive concerns and Frimpong setback

Jeremie Frimpong’s situation is less clear. The full back suffered another injury setback while on international duty with the Netherlands, leaving Liverpool short in a position that has already required improvisation.

Should he miss out against Manchester City, Slot may again rely on midfielders filling in defensively. That kind of adjustment can work in isolated matches, but over a run of high stakes fixtures it becomes a risk.

Alisson and squad depth shaping Liverpool outlook

Alisson Becker’s availability also remains uncertain, although the international break may have come at the right time for recovery. His absence has been felt at key moments this season, and Liverpool are a different side when he is fully fit.

Elsewhere, long term injuries continue to limit depth. Wataru Endo and Conor Bradley are not expected back soon, while younger players like Giovanni Leoni remain sidelined.

For Liverpool, the equation is simple. Get Mohamed Salah back firing, integrate Alexander Isak carefully, and navigate the immediate hurdles. Do that, and the season remains alive on multiple fronts. Fail, and the margins at this level will quickly catch up.
