Liverpool Fitness Update Ahead of Tottenham Hotspur Clash

Liverpool head into another busy Premier League weekend with attention centred on the fitness of several key players. Arne Slot’s side face Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, and the Liverpool manager provided an update from the AXA Training Centre as preparations continue.

With Liverpool firmly competing at the top end of the table under Slot, squad availability remains an important factor as the fixtures continue to arrive quickly.

Alisson Becker Fitness Assessment

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker remains under close observation ahead of the Premier League meeting with Tottenham Hotspur.

The Brazilian missed Liverpool’s midweek Champions League trip to Galatasaray after picking up a minor issue shortly before the game. While the problem does not appear serious, Arne Slot confirmed the club are taking a careful approach.

“He’s been with the physios and with rehab until now.

“We are training today as you know, so let’s see if he can join the team session today. That is something I expect but I’m not 100 per cent sure yet because I haven’t spoken to him or the medical staff this morning yet.”

When asked about the chances of Alisson returning for Liverpool against Tottenham Hotspur, Slot remained cautiously optimistic.

“I’m hopeful but that’s not to say I’m 100 per cent sure.”

Slot later added more detail about the moment the issue occurred.

“He felt something when he passed the ball in one of his muscles. But after we checked it, it was so minor that we think it doesn’t have to take very long.

“But as always, games follow up so fast that he had to miss the one against Galatasaray, and hopefully he’s available and ready for Sunday.

“If not, I’m expecting him, if things go as planned, definitely against Galatasaray.”

Liverpool supporters will be hoping the first choice goalkeeper is available against Tottenham Hotspur, given his importance to Slot’s system.

Federico Chiesa Expected To Return

Federico Chiesa also missed the trip to Istanbul, though his absence was due to illness rather than injury.

The Liverpool forward was unable to travel after feeling unwell shortly before the Champions League fixture. According to Arne Slot, the situation appears to be improving and Chiesa could return to training with the squad.

“I expect he feels better now because he felt unwell the day before the game and I think we’re now three or four further ahead,” said Slot. “So, I think he’s able to train with us today again.”

If Chiesa completes training without issues, he could provide an additional attacking option for Liverpool against Tottenham Hotspur.

Alexander Isak Recovery Continues

Another player discussed by Arne Slot was Alexander Isak, who continues his recovery following surgery in December.

The striker is progressing through rehabilitation but has not yet returned to full training with the Liverpool squad.

“With the rehab team still and not with the team yet.”

For Liverpool and Arne Slot, patience remains the key approach as Isak works his way back to full fitness.
