Reds’ injury crisis continues after latest blow
Liverpool suffered a major injury blow ahead of their 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest last weekend.
Alexis Mac Allister notched a late winner to steal all three points at the City Ground as the Reds moved themselves back into Champions League contention.
The victory brought Arne Slot’s side level on points with Chelsea and Manchester United, but it was not all positive in Nottinghamshire.
The Merseyside outfit produced a poor performance - fortunate to win - and they lost a star man in the warm-up to injury.
Wirtz withdrew from the starting XI at Forest with an innocuous injury that he picked up in the warm-up.
The German was in line to start as the No10 for the Reds, but was replaced in the starting lineup by Curtis Jones.
Slot issued a vague update about his attacking midfielder post-match, telling Sky Sports: “We tried it in the warm-up and he wasn't able to play. The good thing is there is a week to go until the next game."
As such, that could insinuate that the summer signing was nursing a knock in the lead-up to the game, but felt it ahead of kick-off.
Potential return date: vs West Ham on February 28 (A)
Frimpong has struggled with injury problems since he arrived at the club last summer.
The Dutchman’s latest setback came in the 6-0 win over Qarabag in the Champions League, as he went off early with a muscle injury.
Slot confirmed that the right-back would “for sure” be out of the game at Sunderland two weeks ago, and he did not feature against Brighton or Forest.

"Jeremie will not be involved this weekend yet,” Slot said ahead of the trip to Forest.
“We hope he will be involved next week if things go as planned."

Endo deputised at right-back against Sunderland in Dominik Szoboszlai’s absence after the Hungarian’s controversial sending off against Manchester City.
Joe Gomez was fit enough only for the bench, so the Japan international was fielded at full-back.
However, the 33-year-old was stretchered off at the Stadium of Light, landing awkwardly after making a clearance.
“His injury doesn’t look good,” Slot said afterwards. “I expect him to be out, unfortunately, for quite a long time again.”
Quite what Endo has suffered remains to be seen, although details are bound to come to light - as well as his recovery timeline - in the next few weeks.
Potential return date: Unknown
The Northern Ireland international was taken off injured during the goalless draw at Arsenal last month, where he suffered a season-ending knee problem.
The right-back avoided an ACL tear but needed surgery to repair the ruptured ligaments.
A club statement on the right-back read: “Liverpool FC can confirm Conor Bradley has sustained a significant knee injury.

“The right-back suffered the issue in the latter stages of Thursday night's Premier League fixture away at Arsenal.
“Bradley will undergo surgery in the coming days and then begin a period of rehabilitation at the AXA Training Centre.
“No timeframe is being placed on his return to playing at this stage of the process.”
Potential return date: Summer 2026
Record signing Isak suffered a broken leg after opening the scoring in Liverpool’s 2-1 win at Tottenham before Christmas.
The Sweden international has not played since, suffering the injury in a “reckless” challenge from Micky van de Ven, as Arne Slot called it.
Liverpool recently posted pictures of the striker back in individual training, as he was shown practising his ball skills with no cast.
It would be expected, however, for him to be out for quite a while longer yet.
“I think he has been on the pitch now, not with his football shoes, but with his running shoes, for the first time this week, so that will still take a while as well before he is ready to play for us again," Slot said.
Potential return date: April 2026
Leoni is unlikely to play again this campaign after he ruptured his ACL against Southampton in the League Cup at the start of the campaign.

“He is not in a good place, of course, because he tore his ACL and it means he will be out for around a year,” Slot said of the young centre-back.
“Being so young, coming to a new country and playing so well in your first game, it’s very hard to take the positive side.
“There’s never a positive side but he is still so young so he has many years to go after he recovers from a terrible injury like that.”
Potential return date: September 2026
