Jamie Carragher’s comments about Trent Alexander-Arnold’s return to Anfield may have struck a chord with Liverpool supporters, but from a Real Madrid perspective, they only highlight why the Englishman’s decision to move to Spain was the right one.
Carragher accused the right-back of “deceiving” fans and abandoning his boyhood club for the same team that beat them twice in Champions League finals.
“The fans decide what kind of reaction he gets. The reason it was bad is because Trent, during his 20 years as a ‘red’, played the role of ‘I’m a fan on the field’.
“The fans in the stadium wouldn’t leave for free to play for Real Madrid. Okay, it’s his career and he only has one. He’s young and he’s had brilliant success,” said the former Liverpool captain.
Trent had already conquered everything there was to win with Liverpool: a Premier League title, a Champions League trophy, and multiple domestic cups.
Yet, Carragher continues to question the defender’s decision to leave Liverpool, even though it was on a very high note.
“If what he has said since he joined Liverpool is true, that it is the only team for him and that he wants to be captain and become a legend here, then you don’t leave when you’ve just won the league title and have the opportunity to go on and win more trophies with your club.

“Do you join a club that has beaten you in two Champions League finals and is the club you want to compete with to win more titles? I completely understand the fans’ reaction,” he noted.
The Liverpool icon went on to say that Alexander-Arnold has deceived Liverpool fans.
“A lot of this is because they feel that Trent has kind of deceived us throughout his time at the club and also in the last year, where he hasn’t given any interviews to the media or said anything.
“There was a lot of talk about him, Salah, and Van Dijk, who constantly told the press they wanted to stay.
“Trent remained silent on the subject, and that’s where the fans’ frustration comes from,” he commented.
Carragher’s words, while emotional, overlook the natural evolution of elite players.
Real Madrid have always been a destination for those seeking greatness, from Cristiano Ronaldo to Jude Bellingham.
Alexander-Arnold’s decision places him in that same lineage. Madrid do not simply sign footballers; they mould champions, and Trent’s abilities perfectly into the club’s modern philosophy.
