Liverpool have made Alexander Isak a key target for the summer transfer window and are prepared to offer players in exchange for the Newcastle forward.
Isak is a leading name on the shortlist of top clubs after another outstanding season at St James’ Park. The Swedish striker has scored 23 goals in all competitions and netted as Newcastle beat Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final earlier this month. That win ended the club’s 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy.
He has scored 50 league goals in 77 games for Newcastle since arriving from Real Sociedad. In the Premier League, just six players have reached a half-century in fewer games.
Liverpool have made the signing of Isak a priority as the Reds look to land a centre-forward. Arne Slot has grown frustrated with the form and fitness of Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota, who could both leave Anfield in the summer.
Isak is the top priority for the Mersysiders, though Newcastle are determined to hold on to their leading scorer.
The 25-year-old is valued in excess of the £115m British transfer record that took Moises Caicedo from Brighton to Chelsea in 2023.
However, any hope of a deal could hinge on whether Newcastle secure Champions League qualification. Newcastle are currently sixth in the Premier League table.
According to talkSPORT, Liverpool are looking at ways to tempt Newcastle into a sale. The Reds are reportedly willing to offer Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah as part of the package, two players that Newcastle have expressed interest in in recent windows. Gomez saw a potential move to Newcastle break down last summer and the deal could be revisited.
