Liverpool loanee Konstantinos Tsimikas has failed to impress at AS Roma, although the Serie A club isn’t losing sleep over his performances.

According to Alfredo Pedulla, Roma have ruled out making his loan move permanent and are more than happy to send him back to Liverpool at the end of the season.

Tsimikas left Liverpool last summer when the club decided to bring in Milos Kerkez.

The 29-year-old has played second fiddle to Andrew Robertson throughout his Liverpool career, but the club decided to move on from him last summer.

Kerkez was brought in as a long-term successor to Robertson, who is expected to leave Liverpool when his contract runs out at the end of the season.

That decision opened the door for Tsimikas to seek regular first-team minutes elsewhere.

Roma jumped at the chance to bring in the Greece international left back on a season-long loan, but his performances at the Italian capital have been massively underwhelming.

The mood around Trigoria was upbeat when Tsimikas first arrived at Roma.

The club believed they had secured a reliable, energetic player at left back. Tsimikas also pushed for the move as he was eager for a fresh start abroad and a chance to get regular first-team minutes.

After weeks of back-and-forth negotiations, Roma finally got their primary target, but it didn’t take long for that early optimism to fade.

Tsimikas has struggled to settle into Gian Piero Gasperini’s system.

He has started just two of his five Serie A appearances so far, with a series of schoolboy errors and uninspiring performances pushing him closer to the bench than the pitch.

Even when Angelino was sidelined for weeks, opening the door for Tsimikas to nail down a regular starting berth, Gasperini opted to shift Wesley to the left rather than rely on the Greek defender.

That decision spoke volumes, and Tsimikas may have run out of chances to prove he can step up when it matters the most.

Barring any turnaround, Tsimikas will likely return to Liverpool at the end of the season, although his fate at Anfield is also sealed.
