Liverpool have done some great business over the last few years, but one of their best deals is the sale of Fabio Carvalho to Brentford.
The Portuguese forward left Anfield in the summer of 2024 in a deal that could rise to £27.5 million, a near £20 million increase on the fee Liverpool paid just two years earlier.
Michael Edwards has always excelled at getting the best value for Liverpool’s talents, and Carvalho’s sale was one of many examples of the club getting a great price for a player they deemed surplus to requirements.
After spending over £400 million last summer, the Reds will be looking to recoup some cash, and they have the perfect opportunity to recreate the Carvalho deal.
Several talents are sent out on loan to develop away from Anfield every season. These loans are a genuine path to the first-team for many players, but for others they represent a chance to increase their stock ahead of a move away from Merseyside.

One of the biggest prospects Liverpool currently have out on loan is Lewis Koumas, who recently joined Championship side Hull City after spending the first half of the season with Birmingham City.
Carvalho spent the second half of the season before his departure on loan with Hull City too, and it was that loan move that secured the fee Liverpool eventually received.
Koumas scored with only his second touch in a Hull shirt on Saturday, earning the Tigers three points and moving them to third place in the table.
It was an impressive debut for the Welshman, and if he continues to shine at the MKM Arena he will no doubt have plenty of club’s chasing his signature in the summer.
A first-team opportunity at Liverpool can’t be ruled out for Koumas, but if a club comes in with a sensible offer the Reds may be convinced to sanction a sale.
If Hull are promoted to the Premier League they might move to make Koumas’ loan permanent, especially if he continues to earn them wins.
The similarities between Koumas and Carvalho are clear to see, and Liverpool could be set to once again profit from a player developing at Hull.
