Liverpool are in the hunt for a long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah.
With the Egyptian King out of contract in 2027 - and earning £400k per week - it’s been speculated that Richard Hughes could listen to offers this summer.
Saudi Arabian clubs - as well as teams in MLS - may yet be Salah’s next destination with the focus then turning on which player is coming in his place.
Liverpool have taken a liking to Allan Ellias, 21, a versatile left-footed attacker at Palmeiras in Brazil. It was reported back in February that a deal was close for Allan - who is appreciated for his one-v-one ability.
Brazilian media has now confirmed that the Premier League champions have made an approach to Palmeiras for Allan. However the Sao Paulo-based club are currently not of the mind to sell.
In fact to ward off European suitors - said to include Newcastle and Napoli - the club are content to offer Allan a new contract.
According to RTI Esporte the Reds were willing to pay £26m upfront for Allan - with another £4m approximately due in bonuses.
But Palmeiras are determined to tie the attacker down to a new deal until 2030 - viewing him as a key part of their first-team plans.
“The athlete's current contract extends until December 2029,” reads a report. “However, the board decided to bring forward the extension.
“This is because the Palmeiras management understands that this is a way to reinforce their commitment to the player and protect the club from approaches from European football.
“The move comes after Palmeiras was approached by directors from Napoli and Liverpool.”
Liverpool may well have been rebuffed in their first approach for Allan but if they are serious about signing him then we can expect another bid in the windows ahead.
Generally viewed in South America as Palmeiras’ next big sale - following in the footsteps of Endrick and Estevao - it won’t be long until Allan makes the leap to Europe.
