Liverpool have been tipped to shake up their attack this summer.

Last year Richard Hughes conducted a £450m spending spree - including British record deals for two forwards. Alexander Isak cost £125m from Newcastle and Florian Wirtz was added from Bayer Leverkusen for a fee that could reach £116m.

Further additions were made with Jeremie Frimpong and Hugo Ekitike - who came in for £69m from Eintracht Frankfurt.

With Mohamed Salah leaving and Federico Chiesa also likely to depart there will be a need for the sporting director and new coach Andoni Iraola to add options.

Liverpool appreciate Morgan Rogers

One name “appreciated” by Liverpool recruiters according to a new report in the Athletic is Morgan Rogers. The 23-year-old UEFA Europa League champion has got five years left on his contract at Aston Villa following a renewal until 2031.

But the England star is not expected to stay around with Unai Emery’s side requiring sales this summer.

The report claims that the Premier League side are demanding up to £100m to part ways with Rogers - with there now being an acceptance that he will be on his way.

All of the top Premier League clubs - Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea - are reported to be also interested. And overseas interest is represented by Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.

Liverpool will look elsewhere for transfers

Villa need to drive a hard bargain owing to Middlesbrough possessing a 20 percent sell-on clause. However while Liverpool are certain to be admirers of Rogers there is a sense that they will look elsewhere for reinforcements this summer.

Rather than adding another attacking midfielder - a position that both Wirtz and Dominik Szoboszlai can play - the outgoing Premier League champions need signings for other positions.

Right-back and centre-back could come into focus as priorities while there is a question over whether or not Andy Robertson will be replaced. Central midfield has also been pointed out as an area needing attention.

Above all the Anfield side require quick, one-v-one specialists out wide with the likes of Bradley Barcola and Yan Diomande named as potential targets.

While Rogers is a top class playmaker in his own right he is not of a similar profile to the out-and-out wingers Liverpool will desire this summer.
