Liverpool have made a decision on Arne Slot’s future after their demoralising Champions League defeat at Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.
The Reds were completely dominated by PSG, who scored in each half to take a two-goal advantage to the second leg at Anfield.
Liverpool’s European loss came after a 4-0 demolition by Manchester City last weekend, dumping the Merseyside team out of the FA Cup at the quarter-final stage.
But despite the recent results, Slot’s future at the club doesn’t appear to be in any immediate danger.
According to The Telegraph, Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group want the Dutch boss to retain his role at Anfield for next season.
They do not want to put the blame solely on the manager, and believe factors such as the tragic death of Diogo Jota and the dramatic fall off in form of key stars like Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk has contributed to the team’s struggles this campaign.
Slot took over as Liverpool manager in the summer of 2024, replacing Jurgen Klopp who served nearly nine years at the club.
The 47-year-old made an immediate impact, leading his side to the Premier League title in his debut season.
But things have turned out to be very different this campaign, as the Reds are producing one disappointing result after another.
They are on the precipice of Champions League elimination after the 2-0 loss at PSG, while their Premier League position also doesn’t offer much hope to the supporters.
This is despite the fact they had an eye-watering £450 million summer spending spree to bring in Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike and Florain Wirtz.
